"Blinkers"

$3,800.00

18 x 24

Mixed Media Collage on Wood Panel with Resin

In horse racing, “blinkers” are a piece of equipment, like a hood, that a horse wears in order to channel their vision on the racetrack.  This artwork makes reference to both vision and perception through the use of the overlapping eyes as well as the motif repeated along the border.  The Rubin’s vase or Rubin’s face is an optical illusion developed by a Danish psychologist Edgar Rubin.  It presents the viewer with two different shape interpretations, the first a vase and the second are two faces in profile or side view looking at each other.  The racehorse and jockey in the center of the artwork is constructed out of multicolored squares or pixels which refers to digital images that are out of focus or unclear.  The purpose of combining all the different motifs is to contemplate how we perceive and understand aspects of the world.
