In horse racing, a “perfect trip” refers to a clear path that a horse receives in a race clear of any traffic trouble, and it is a very lucky situation that usually leads to victory. This artwork is constructed out of found, recycled, and re-purposed maps. I’ve juxtaposed the racehorse and jockey with a repeated pattern of keys, light bulbs, and compasses. What I wanted to express in the artwork is what a blessing and gift that it is to be able travel. I feel energized and inspired by going to a new place and experiencing different cultures. I think this idea also applies to breaking our everyday routines, taking a different path, or going somewhere new. For me, a perfect trip is one where you can look at yourself and the world differently because of that experience. Any time you leave your house, I believe you need to make yourself open and available to receive those types of experiences by trusting your instincts.
