Championship Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts appeal to me as a sports and entertainment consumer. I am inspired by the discipline required by the athletes to persist despite the physical and emotional challenges. The fight scene motif allows me to explore themes of struggle/resilience, conflict/resolution, instinct/protection, and violence/self-control. In “Flip Switch” a series of metal and plastic light switches are inked and run under the printing press to create an all over pattern.
